How Search Engine Works?

  • Crawling: Search engines use automated bots called crawlers or spiders to discover and browse web pages. These bots start by visiting a list of known web pages and follow links from those pages to discover new ones. They continuously crawl the web to update their indexes with new and updated content.
  • Indexing: As the crawlers visit web pages, they extract information about the page’s content, including text, images, links, and metadata. This information is then stored in a massive database known as the search engine’s index. The index lets the search engine quickly retrieve relevant pages in response to user queries.
  • Ranking: When a user enters a search query, the search engine retrieves relevant pages from its index. It then applies a complex algorithm to rank these pages based on factors like keyword relevance, quality of content, website authority, user engagement metrics, and more. The goal is to present the most relevant and high-quality results to the user.
  • Displaying Results: Finally, the search engine displays the ranked results on the search engine results page (SERP). Typically, the top-ranking results appear at the top of the page, followed by lower-ranking results. Users can then click on the search results to visit the corresponding web pages.

Search engines constantly update their algorithms to improve the relevance and quality of their search results. They also take into account user behaviour and feedback to refine their algorithms over time.
