Without caching, WordPress builds each page from scratch for every visitor. Caching saves ready-made copies, so pages load much faster.
Types of caching
| Type | What it does |
|---|---|
| Page caching | Stores complete HTML pages |
| Browser caching | Visitors’ browsers keep files for repeat visits |
| Object caching | Speeds up database queries, useful for stores |
| CDN caching | Serves files from servers near visitors. Read CDNs explained |
How to set it up
- Many managed hosts include server-level caching; check before adding a plugin.
- Otherwise use one reputable caching plugin; never two.
- Enable page caching, browser caching and file minification carefully.
Exclude dynamic pages
Cart, checkout and account pages should not be cached for stores.
Test after enabling
Check forms, menus and logins still work, and test speed before and after.
Caching cannot fix everything
Large images, heavy themes and many plugins still slow pages. Compress with our image compressor and convert to WebP with our format converter.
