The Theme Customizer lets you change how your WordPress site looks and see the changes live before you publish. The video walks through the main options.
Opening the Customizer
In the WordPress dashboard, go to Appearance, then Customize. A preview of your site appears with settings on the left. Block themes use the Site Editor instead (Appearance, then Editor); the ideas are similar.
Common settings
- Site identity: logo, site title, tagline and site icon (favicon). Make a favicon with our favicon generator.
- Colours: brand colours for buttons, links and backgrounds. Check text stays readable with the colour contrast checker.
- Typography: fonts and sizes for headings and body text.
- Menus: create menus and assign them to header or footer locations.
- Homepage settings: show your latest posts or a static page as the home page.
- Widgets: sidebar and footer content.
- Additional CSS: small style tweaks without editing theme files.
Tips
- Use the device icons at the bottom to preview on mobile and tablet.
- Save as draft or schedule changes if your theme supports it.
- Keep it simple: two brand colours and one or two fonts look more professional than many.
- Options vary by theme; premium themes add more settings.
