Even the best ad stops working when the same people see it too often. This is called ad fatigue, and it quietly pushes your costs up.
Signs of ad fatigue
- Frequency keeps rising.
- Click-through rate falls week after week.
- Cost per result rises.
- More negative comments or hidden ads.
What frequency is too high?
There is no single number. For prospecting campaigns to cold audiences, results often decline once frequency climbs well above 2–3 over a week or two. Retargeting can tolerate higher frequency. Watch your own trend. Check yours with our ad frequency calculator.
Small audiences tire faster
Local businesses targeting a few kilometres reach the same people quickly. Refresh creatives more often, or widen the area.
How to refresh without starting over
- Add new creatives to the existing ad set instead of creating a new campaign.
- Change the hook or opening of a winning video.
- Try a new format: carousel, testimonial, demo.
- Rotate offers or seasonal angles.
Prevent it
- Keep 3–5 active creatives per ad set.
- Plan new creatives every few weeks.
- Track CTR trends with our CTR calculator.
