Regular XML sitemaps list pages. Image and video extensions add details about media on those pages, helping search engines find them.

    Image sitemaps help when

    • Images are important for your business: products, portfolio, recipes.
    • Images load through JavaScript or are otherwise hard to discover.

    Video sitemaps help when

    • You host videos on your own site.
    • Video is central to the page.

YouTube embeds are usually found through YouTube itself.

    How to add them

    • SEO plugins and platforms often include images automatically.
    • Custom sites can add image entries to sitemaps; start from our sitemap generator.
    • Video sitemaps include title, description, thumbnail and duration.
