Internal links are links from one page on your website to another. They help visitors find what they need and help Google understand which pages matter most.
Why they matter
- Google discovers pages by following links.
- Links pass importance from strong pages to others.
- Descriptive link text tells Google what the linked page is about.
- Visitors find related services and stay longer.
A simple structure
- Home page links to every main service page.
- Service pages link to related services, location pages and relevant blog posts.
- Blog posts link to the service they relate to and to other posts.
- Location pages link to the services offered there.
Write descriptive link text
Instead of “click here”, write “see our local SEO service”. The words should describe the page you are linking to.
Find orphan pages
Pages with no internal links pointing to them are hard for Google and visitors to find. Make sure every important page is linked from at least one other page and listed in your sitemap. Create one with our sitemap generator.
Do not overdo it
Link where it genuinely helps the reader. A handful of useful links per page is better than dozens.
Keep URLs clean
Short, descriptive URLs are easier to link and understand. Create them with our URL slug generator.
