Setting up your Meta advertising accounts properly from the start saves problems later, especially ownership disputes and disabled accounts. Here is the order to do it in.
Step 1: create a business portfolio
Go to Meta Business Suite and create a business portfolio (previously called Business Manager) with your legal business name and business email. Add a second admin you trust, so you never get locked out.
Step 2: add your Facebook Page and Instagram account
Add both to the business portfolio. If an agency or freelancer created them, ask them to transfer ownership or give you admin access.
Step 3: create an ad account
Create the ad account inside your business portfolio, set the currency to INR and the correct time zone. These cannot easily be changed later.
Step 4: add payment and GST details
Add a card or UPI payment method and your GST number, so invoices carry your GST details.
Step 5: install the Meta Pixel
Create a Pixel (dataset) in Events Manager and add it to your website. Track key actions like leads and purchases; our Pixel event code generator creates the code. Read Pixel and Conversions API explained.
Step 6: verify your domain and business
Domain verification and business verification help with trust and unlock some features.
Step 7: create your first campaign
- Choose an objective: Leads, Sales or Engagement (messages).
- Set the budget and location at ad set level.
- Choose placements, usually Advantage+ placements to start.
- Create two or three ads with different images or videos.
- Name everything clearly; our campaign name builder helps.
Give partners access, not passwords
If someone runs your ads, add them as a partner in your business portfolio. Never share your personal Facebook login.
