The title tag is the blue clickable headline in Google results. It is one of the clearest signals of what your page is about, and it decides whether people click.
Good title tag rules
- Put the main keyword near the start.
- Keep it to roughly 50–60 characters so it is not cut off.
- Make every page’s title unique.
- Add your brand at the end if space allows.
- Write for people, not just search engines.
Formulas that work
| Page type | Formula | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Service | Service in City | Brand | Dental Implants in Gurugram | Smile Care |
| Product | Product + key feature | Brand | Cotton Bedsheet King Size, 300 TC | HomeNest |
| Guide | How to / Topic + year or number | How to Start a Bakery Business: 10 Steps |
| Home | Brand: What you do, Where | CoolFix: AC Repair and Service in Manesar |
Common mistakes
- “Home” or “Untitled” as the title.
- The same title on every page.
- Stuffing several keywords: “SEO, SEO Company, SEO Services, Best SEO”.
Google may rewrite it
Google sometimes shows a different title if it thinks yours does not describe the page well. Accurate, clear titles are rewritten less often.
