You search for your business or service and your website is nowhere to be seen. There is almost always a clear reason. Work through these checks in order.
Check 1: is Google aware of your site?
Search site:yourdomain.com on Google. If nothing appears, Google has not indexed your site. Set up Google Search Console, submit your sitemap and request indexing for your home page.
Check 2: is the site blocking search engines?
- A “discourage search engines” setting left on in WordPress after launch.
- A robots.txt file that disallows everything. Check yourdomain.com/robots.txt.
- A “noindex” tag on important pages.
Check 3: is the site new?
New websites can take a few weeks to appear, and months to rank for competitive searches. Keep publishing useful pages and build a few trusted links.
Check 4: are you searching for the right thing?
You may appear for your business name but not for “dentist in Rewari”. Ranking for services needs a dedicated page for each service with the right keywords. Read how to write a service page that ranks.
Check 5: are competitors simply stronger?
If you are indexed but on page three, competitors may have more content, more reviews and more links. Look at the top results and note what they have that you do not.
Check 6: technical problems
- Very slow pages on mobile.
- Duplicate content across many pages.
- Broken internal links or redirect loops.
- A manual action shown in Search Console.
Check 7: for local searches, your Google Business Profile
For “near me” searches, the map results often matter more than your website. A missing or incomplete profile means you miss most local searches. See our Google Business Profile guide.
