Amazon.in gives sellers access to customers across India. Getting started is straightforward if you prepare your documents and plan your listings and pricing first.
What you need
- A GST number for most categories (see GST for online sellers).
- PAN of the business or proprietor.
- A bank account in the business name.
- A business email and phone number.
- Product details: dimensions, weight, MRP, HSN code and images.
Step 1: register on Seller Central
Sign up on Amazon Seller Central with your business email, then complete the business information, tax details and bank verification.
Step 2: choose how you will fulfil orders
| Option | How it works |
|---|---|
| Fulfilment by Amazon (FBA) | You send stock to Amazon’s warehouse; Amazon packs and ships |
| Easy Ship | You pack; Amazon picks up and delivers |
| Self Ship | You pack and ship with your own courier |
Step 3: list your products
- Check whether your product already exists on Amazon; if so, you may add an offer to it.
- For new products, create listings with keyword-rich titles, five bullet points, a description, backend keywords and quality images.
- Build titles with our product title generator.
Step 4: price for profit
Account for referral fees, closing fees, shipping, GST on fees, returns and ads. Use our marketplace profit calculator and read Amazon seller fees explained.
Step 5: get your first sales
- Start with a competitive price and good images.
- Ask early buyers for honest reviews through Amazon’s allowed methods.
- Consider small sponsored product campaigns.
- Keep stock available; running out hurts rankings.
